Dear Robert,
I am a descendant of Charles Hardesty and Ann "Nancy" Fowler. He is
my 5th great-grandfather. I have been working on Hardesty's for about
8-9 years. I have about 30,000 names in my computer of Hardestys and
related families. I just read over and copied your information on your
web page. There are a few things that I'd like to know. First Edward is
not the son of my Grandfather, Charles. He is the son of John Obediah,
bn. abt 1750-St. Mary's Co., Md., and Catherine Thompson bn. abt 1756,
Md. Edward married Susannah Yates, bn. 1795, Md. His children were-
1. Catherine Lavina, bn. 1818,Ky.--13 mar 1879, Monroe, Mo. Married 7 feb
1837 to Benedict Carrico. Son of Walter and Helen (O'Brien) Carrico.
2. Felix bn 6 mar 1824, Mo.--16 oct 1910, Springfield, Mo. Married to
Elizabeth Katherine Gertin, bn 11 sep 1834, Ky.--8 apr 1897 Springfield,
Mo.
3. C. Edward Andrew, chr. 4 sep 1835, St. Stephens, Indian Creek,
Monroe, Missouri. Married to Mary E. Graham, bn May 1839, Mo.
What I am curious about is where did you get the info about Charles
father. You have him listed as Joseph. I ran across an old McDonough
County, Illinois atlas ( abt 1860) that said Charles father was John. Now
it could be that his name was John Joseph and I would believe that. The
older Hardestys went by their middle names a lot. Charles named his 3
sons after family. John, William ( for his father-in-law), and Charles (
after himself.) So I assumed that it is true that John was his father.
I also think that Charles had another brother named John. The oldest
son, Richard, lived by his brother John in Belmont County. But I would
love to know why Joseph's name was put as his father. I have also
wondered whether Obediah, of Belmont County, is also a brother. Because
he was with Richard and one of Richard's sons names a child Obediah. It
could be that Obed is a cousin. I'm not sure.
I can't wait to hear from you. Let me know if I can help you.
