Hardesty in West Virginia

Do you know anything about the Hardesty family in West Virginia?
Here at West Virginia University, the President is David C.
Hardesty, who is from Shinnston, W. Va. I would imagine that the
Hardestys in Kentucky and so on might be related to those in
West Virginia????

I am a genealogist and a professor of mathematics. I have no
relation to Hardesty family, just curious to check out a line.
