Re: Surname



Thanks for responding to my inquiry regarding "Hardesty".  My father was born
and raised in Indiana and his father was born and raised in Indiana.  I can't
go back any further than that.  

I recently e-mailed another Hardesty in England and asked about the origins
of the last name.  He told me that Hardesty is originally from the east cost
of Britain and is probably a variation of an old Viking name, Hardais or
similar.  Quite a few surnames from that part of the country begin with Hard,
ie. Hardcastle, Hardacre, etc.  It is possible that we are derived from the
ancient invaders of Britain dating back to the dark-ages around 600 to 800
AD.
