Owen O'Sullivan Beare d. 8/31/1616 m. Helena Butler
Owen Donel O'Sullivan Beare m. JoAnn Elizabeth Browne
Thomas Sullivant b. 1641 m. Jean Pleasants (who later married her
1st cousin Owen Sullivant)
Dermod or Dormand Sullivant d. 1692 m. Anne Mecarrell
        Mary Sullivant
        Elizabeth Sullivant
Anne Sullivant (became a nun in Spain)
*John Sullivant b. 1637 Ireland m. Mary Hayes

*John came to Princess Anne Co. VA with his sister, Elizabeth, in 1655 -
running from Cromwell. I have more info on John but his descendants
ultimately moved to NC or SC - my line went from NC to AL - none moved to
the North so probably no help for you. I don't have more info on the other
lines.

I suggest 2 books if you can find them; I can't but my records come from one
who has: "Irish Pedigrees; or the Origin and Stem of the Irish Nation" by
John O'Hart, published in 1923 and "The Family of John Sullivan of Berwick"
by Thomas Coffin Amory published in 1893.

One of those books traces from Adam and Eve to John Sullivan, above; he is
the 122nd generation. You can place as much faith as you like in the tree.
8-) According to the book, Suileabhain (various spellings), the 4th King of
Munster around 950 AD, was the founder of the name SULLIVAN. The 107th
generation was Buadhach O'Sullivan which began two names.

I surmise that the family was Catholic (Anne became a nun) until they came
to America. Those who went to AL were Baptist. The 5 churches that the 4
generations before me attended (1834-1924) are still standing and I have
been to all (they let Methodists in now. 8-)

Maybe some of the above will give you a clue.

Hugh
